Get to know Brian Asbell

Brian Asbell was appointed Peoria County Sheriff in August 2017 following the retirement of Sheriff Mike McCoy. Asbell is a lifelong Peoria County resident from the Brimfield area and is from a large farm family. He is the third oldest out of eight children, is happily married to his beautiful wife Erica and they have two children- Brock and Evan. Asbell is a Veteran who served in both the U.S. Army and Illinois National Guard.

Sheriff Asbell is a 22-year veteran of the Peoria County Sheriff's Office and has worked or managed every division within the Sheriff's Department. His career began in 1995 and he has worked as a Corrections Officer, Corrections Sergeant, Patrol Deputy, Detective, Jail Superintendent, Undersheriff and now Sheriff.

Sheriff Asbell sits on numerous state and local advisory committees and executive boards and has received numerous awards throughout his career. Sheriff Asbell is one of three Certified Jail Managers in the State of Illinois. He is also a member of the Illinois Farm Bureau, American Legion Post 2 and is very active in St. Jude fundraising efforts serving as the Run Coordinator for the Kickapoo-Brimfield Satellite Run.
